BIOGRAPHY

Founded in 1978 by John Mortimer, Holocaust was so named with the idea in mind that a Heavy Metal band should have an impact like that of a nuclear bomb exploding. Heavy Metal was a new concept in those days and Holocaust made history with their first release in 1980 as the 12" single "Heavy Metal Mania" was the first commercial release to feature the term "Heavy Metal" in the title. The song, which has become the definitive Metal anthem, also featured on the first album "The Nightcomers". The year 1982 saw the release of the Live album, "Live-Hot Curry and Wine" and these two albums are now recognised as among the most influential of the NWOBHM, (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal), period. Songs from those albums such as "Death Or Glory", "The Small Hours" and of course "Heavy Metal Mania" has been covered by acts as diverse as Metallica, Gamma Ray, Six Feet Under and Meat Puppets.

The days of the NWOBHM era only represent the first era of the band Holocaust and the band has released ten albums in total, excluding compilations and "special edition" re-releases. The second era of the band produced a total of five albums, all of which are precious to those fans the world over who sought them out. Despite a 1993 show at the Wacken festival, the second era was marked by obscurity due to the ignorance of the music industry and the absence of proper internet communication.

In this present era, John Mortimer (Guitar and Vocal), Mark McGrath (Bass), and Scott Wallace (Drums) represent the strongest manifestation of the band Holocaust in its entire history, with the albums "Predator" and "Elder Gods" invoking strong devotion in fans old and new, whilst the Live shows are unsurpassed in their power and feel. "Elder Gods" is the tenth album and brings with it the nuclear-impact Metal articulating a highly evolved and diverse creation in sound. The band stays true to its NWOBHM heritage in kick-ass intensity Live shows but ALSO stays true to Mortimer's original determination to submit to no artistic limitations..."As far as we are concerned Metal is about radical freedom and no-one is going to put this band in a musical straight jacket".\m/
